Upper Hutt Community Rescue - Now USAR RT-9 Registered

Upper Hutt Community Rescue has become the first private volunteer rescue team in the country to be registered under the Urban Search and Rescue framework. With three local teams passing their registration in May, Wellington now has more registered response teams than any other region in the country.

Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) is a coordinated multi-agency response that is beyond the capability of normal rescue arrangements. It involves the mobilisation of resources to locate and remove trapped and often injured victims from collapsed structures or environments. USAR is considered a "multi-hazard" discipline, as it may be needed for a variety of emergencies or disasters.
